The Weaving Specialist is a craft position responsible for the replacement of warp beams, size changes, maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment used to support a battery of Dornier looms designed to weave yarn into cloth. This position also requires the performance of loom operator duties. Management may assign additional duties as needed.
Essential Functions:
Will pull empty warps, replace and start up full warps according to established procedure by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform tie-in duties and reed widths as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will restart machines performing size checks of cloth against production schedules and scan information into computers by reading and performing written instructions. Will detect defects and problems on Dornier looms to be corrected and apply correction procedures by reading and performing written instructions. Will be able to identify weaving, filler, and warp end defects and problems by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform hour-by-hour tasks by reading and performing written instructions. Will remove and install warp beams, harnesses, drop wires, and reeds by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform end of shift duties as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform doffing operations on A-Frames according to procedures by reading and performing written instructions. Will set up, adjust, and repair looms to weave cloth of specified quality and design using knowledge of loom functions, weaving diagrams and manuals by reading and performing written instructions. Will repair or replace defective parts and level and align parts using hand tools by reading and performing written instructions. Will respond to fixer requests and assist other specialist in completing tasks by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform Dornier general and specific duties and operate looms as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will apply correction procedures for weaving filler and warp end defects and problems by reading and performing written instructions. Will meet attendance requirements of regular and predictable attendance.
Non-Essential Functions:
May perform 5S tasks as needed. May repair warp and filler breaks in yarn. May start loom and inspect woven cloth to detect defects unable to correct. May replace defective warp yarn, repair incorrect threading of looms and monitor looms to insure that fabric and fill yarn conforms to work order posted on loom. May clean machines and operate looms (See loom operator duties listed above). May assist other specialist in completing tasks. May relieve employees on vacation, holiday, or otherwise absent.
Special Demands/Responsibilities:
Must perform all duties in a safe manner. Must perform other departmental duties as assigned by supervisor. Must handle and move material without damage. Must be able to read a tape measure to 1/32 of an inch. Must be able to work overtime as scheduled or assigned. Must be able to understand mechanical skills and be able to apply these on the job.
Supervision Received:
Will receive direct supervision from the shift supervisor and or a team leader.
Acceptable Education:
Prefer a High School Diploma or GED. Assessed in reading and mathematics at an 8th grade equivalency or higher on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam through our Continuous Education and Development (CED) program or have an appropriate WorkKeys score based on the job profile. The Wisen Mechanical Comprehensive Test is required for this position.
Acceptable Training and Experience:
Prefer 6 months of previous experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment. Prefer 6 months loom operator experience. Prefer knowledge of mechanical operations. Prefer 6 months of experience in weaving operations.
Certificates and Licenses Required:
Will have or can obtain certification to operate material handling equipment. Must have or be able to receive certification in lockout/tagout.
Physical Demands:
Ability to push, pull, front carry, horizontal lift and floor to waist lift at a heavy work level using correct procedures. Ability to lift sedentary (occasionally), light (occasionally), medium (occasionally), heavy (frequently), and very heavy (occasionally) materials using correct lifting procedures. Ability to exert heavy (50-100 pounds) push force on an A-frame occasionally. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and flex trunk constantly. Must have 20/35 or correctable vision in each eye. Must pass the Farnsworth-Munsell test with an Average or Above score. Must conform to all safe procedures and wear steel-toed shoes.
