Tenter Industrial Maintenance Mechanic
JOB SUMMARY: The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic will train to directly coordinate tenter maintenance and the activities of other Tenter Mechanics. This position will also train to limit tenter downtime to maintain standards of production and quality by ensuring operation of tentering machinery and mechanical equipment. Management may assign additional duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Will install and maintain mechanical components and drive systems including: gear reducers, bearings, couplings, chains, sprockets, and belt drives. Will use basic hand tools including: hammers, screw drivers, ratchets, wrenches and etc. to safely perform job tasks. Will use proper alignment practices for both belts and chain drive systems. Will weld carbon steel using stick or wire welding. Will safely operate basic power tools including: cordless drills, drill presses, band saws, angle grinders, and belt sanders. Will safely use maintenance tools including: chain breaks, hole/center punch, tap and die, and square. Will use specialized equipment to monitor wear on critical components. Will organize repair work for planned downtime or breakdowns of equipment. Will remove and replace defective parts, evaluate and ensure safety of the work environment including mandatory company safety procedures (LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space…etc.). Will ensure proper operation of machinery in order to maintain equipment uptime. Will use semi-precision instruments: dial calipers, steel rulers, pi tape and dial indicators safely and according to standards.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: May be required to perform basic plumbing tasks using appropriate tools and techniques. May be required to fabricate repair parts using machine shop equipment. May be required to maintain equipment, parts and supplies inventory. May be required to acquire knowledge and troubleshooting of pneumatic systems skills. May be required to acquire proper bearing component lubrication skills. May be required to learn and perform tasks using SAP and PMD. May be required to use a multi-meter for troubleshooting basic electrical issues.
SPECIAL DEMANDS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Must perform job duties in a safe manner. Must perform other duties as assigned by management. Must be able to communicate with others skillfully and work with all departments. Must be able to successfully pass evaluations at designated time periods. Must be able to work overtime as scheduled or assigned. Must perform 5S tasks as needed. Must be able to read tape measures to within1/16 of an inch. Must work closely and frequently under the direction of engineering staff and manufacturing/production. Must assist with Kaizen event needs and requests.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Will receive direct supervision from Tentering Support Engineer.
MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED. Assessed at an 8th grade equivalency or higher in reading on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam through our Continuous Education and Development (CED) program or have an appropriate WorkKeys score based on the job profile. The Procedure for Awarding Craft Positions will be used to qualify applicants with the exception of a TABE Mathematics score of 10.1 or higher. The Wiesen Test of Mechanical Aptitude will be administered to all employees who bid on this job. A hands-on test and interview will also be included in the Procedure for Awarding Craft Positions. Qualified applicants will be required to take and pass all of the below tests covering portions of the required skills before being awarded the Tenter Industrial Maintenance Mechanic position.
a. Must complete the Millwright Basic Competency written test with a score >80
b. Must complete the Steel Welding 1 Hands-On Test with a score >80
c. Must complete the Plumbing Hands-On Test with a score >80
d. Must complete the Blueprint Reading Test with a score>80
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must have four years verifiable experience in a maintenance or industrial position or must have one of following associates degrees or certificates in Machine Tool Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology or Welding.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to push, pull, front carry, horizontal lift and floor to waist lift using correct lifting procedures. Ability to lift sedentary (occasionally), light (occasionally), medium (occasionally) and heavy (occasionally) material using correct lifting procedures. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and flex trunk constantly. Must have 20/35 or correctable vision in each eye. Must wear safe shoes and conform to all safety rules.
